Following a Liberal Democrat proposal made today, the County Council has agreed to write to Ruth Kelly, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, calling upon her to abolish the brownfield status of gardens in order to prevent inappropriate development in residential areas.

Locals from affected residential areas have made frequent complaints about the impacts such developments have upon their privacy, as well as the character and biodiversity of the areas where they take place.
