I agree that the state of Cheltenham roads is unacceptable and that Gloucestershire County Council has failed since it took charge of highway maintenance in 2007.

I therefore urge Shire Hall to give responsibility for road maintenance back to the people of Cheltenham, via the Borough Council.

As a nightshirt worker who cycles 8 miles to work and back in the dark, I find it very dangerous cycling in the dark as there are numerous deep potholes on my route and very little lighting. I have nearly come off my back on numerous occasions due to hitting potholes.

    Martin Kilbey says:

Emptying gullies is critical:standing water splashed up by vehicles is eroding mortar in roadside walls; there are crossing-points for the blind in several places which are unusable in wet weather because of puddles and several houses have been flooded recently because of blocked gullies or SWD’s. Early capturing and the “spread” disposal of water over a longer time will help to mitigate the effect of our changing weather patterns.

I am just sat in Malvern tyres Cheltenham and having to replace a tyre of only 2 months because of hitting potholes last night !! Too dark to see them. So I am definately wanting to put in a claim as I am a pensioner on a low income. Another £56 is not acceptable. I tried to claim a few years ago about a massive one in Sydenham riad/Carlton street but failed because if disgusting excuses the highways agency made at the time.

Pittville Circus Road by Berkhampstead School is in a terrible state of repair. Sooner or later, someone will die on this stretch of road, unless something is done. I can easily imagine a cyclist or motorcyclist veering into the path of oncoming traffic. This small stretch of road needs resurfacing. Pothole repairs are not enough.

I agree something must be done but they weren’t much better under the liberal council either.

Far too many potholes that need attention and with most roads being so narrow and with car parking spaces limited, its impossible to avoid them without it being a danger to other road users and pedestrians
