I agree that the state of Cheltenham roads is unacceptable and that Gloucestershire County Council has failed since it took charge of highway maintenance in 2007.

I therefore urge Shire Hall to give responsibility for road maintenance back to the people of Cheltenham, via the Borough Council.

Never known the roads to be as bad as they are now. Had 3 punctures in past 4 months in Cheltenham.

Gloucestershire has a 20 year backlog worth £84 million on road repairs. This is a disgrace. http://www.cheltlibdems.org.uk/cap_petition?recruiter_id=7

Gloucestershire's Tories have just cut Gloucestershire's road budget by £2 million. Sign the petition against here.

Due to the nature of my work I have traveled a lot, mostly to European countries, and to my big surprise I have never seen such bad roads in Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland and many other European countries like I see in UK. Quite opposite: all the roads there, even small countryside ones, are perfect! They use really strong materials for their roads, so they don’t have to repair them that often. Every time I come back to UK I feel like I am in a Third World Country. The state of roads in UK is shocking!

The money being spent on the incinerator would be much better spent on our roads and footpaths.

the roads are TERRIBLE at the moment – three collgues had their tires bust on their way to work last week on the leckhampton road near the air balloon round about

my area in st marks is terrible with my road being one of the most affected with poor patchy and frankly dangerous potting – and this isn’t even a main road!

I visit Cheltenham regularly. I am amazed at the atrocious condition of the roads and the fact that nothing ever improves. Here in West Somerset our roads are repaired as necessary and extremely promptly. I travel all round the country and the roads in Cheltenham are the worst by far. What sort of message does this send to your many visitors, let alone the long-suffering residents?

As a visitor to Cheltenham I have been shocked by the condition of roads throughout the town….so much so that the fear I have of damage occurring to my car has meant that I am now extremely disinclined to visit again!

The roads in Gloucester seem to be in a far better state than those in Cheltenham. Why?

You should include the state of pavements as well; currently a very poor standard

The state of the roads is dreadful. Vittoria Walk is an example of how poorly maintained the roads are.

Long overdue, our son comes up from Portsmouth and is appalled by how the road conditions deteriorate when you come into Cheltenham. When we carry passengers along Tommy-tailors Lane or Vitoria Walk we feel obliged to apologise. Its embarrassing. We went to Romania last year and these two roads are on a par with theirs! I drive a Mondeo, which, being a heavy car, has strong suspension. It was last tracked 7 months ago but last week I had to have the back 2 tires replaced because the tracking had been knocked so far out of true that it shredded them.. By rights they should have lasted at least another 5K miles. Its absolutely disgusting.

I have no car now, but I would like to thank all those involved with this issue, for making so many efforts to get our potholes improved. Sorry – cannot volunteer.
