Cheltenham Against Potholes Petition

Sign below to show your support to improving the state of Cheltenham's roads

I agree that the state of Cheltenham roads is unacceptable and that Gloucestershire County Council has failed since it took charge of highway maintenance in 2007.

I therefore urge Shire Hall to give responsibility for road maintenance back to the people of Cheltenham, via the Borough Council.

Potholes finished off my last car which cost £18K to replace, now costing £200/year for regular wheel alignments due to ongoing disgusting state of many roads, all the CC does is send someone to draw white circles round them, why not just send the repair team to fill them in instead. I visit Russia most years and many roads there other than in the wildest places now better than ours. And they pay less tax than us.

7 tears of promises and very little action. Big is not beautiful for such matters local is definitely preferable.

Maybe we could use some of the billions the queen is getting to do up the palace. Potholes are a massive safety hazzard, bad enough on four wheels , potentially fatal on two wheels !!

Cheltenham has some of the worst roads in the country. To repair potholes is false economy. The few that are repaired, do not appear to be subject to quality control inspection, with some needing further maintenance after a few weeks.

Wholeheartedly agree about potholes and the state of roads generally. They are appalling. Belworth Drive is a prime example. I would also add that street cleaning, the responsibility of the Borough Council, is hardly ever carried out either!. Councillors, please show more concern.

The whole thing is a disgrace. Eight years of mismanagement and underfunding of Cheltenham’s roads by the County Council has left a network of cart tracks where we have repairs on top of repairs. It’ll take years to put right.

Living in busy Tommy Taylors Lane, we are scheduled to have our potholes repaired in the coming year after much local campaigning but I bet our lovely new tory MP parachutist will claim all the credit for it. He didn’t even send round a note of thanks for voting for him. He must have known I didn’t!

Cheltenham has third world country roads. It’s disgraceful.

Recently I was on holiday in another area and while driving suddenly realised how relaxed I felt – I was not spending all my time avoiding potholes as I do here! What a sad reflection on Cheltenham. Something needs to be done so we can all drive safely!

While they are doing the potholes can we PLEASE have more wheelchair friendly curbs? EVen when an attempt has been made to lower many of the curbs round the town centre i have to be lifted over them. I challenge you to take this up!
