Cheltenham Borough Council ready to help refugees

Cheltenham Borough Council is offering its support to efforts to help refugees to Britain.
The Liberal Democrat administration is pledging to do all it can to ensure the town is able to support people displaced by war in the Middle East and Africa.

Council leader Cllr Steve Jordan (LD, All Saints) said: "We cannot stand by and watch this crisis unfolding without offering our help. If and when the Government does the right thing and offers places to the refugees fleeing war, we will ensure the town is ready to do its bit."

The council will work with its own social housing provider Cheltenham Borough Homes, other social housing providers and the private sector to ensure accommodation can be found.

Cabinet member for Housing, Safety and communities Cllr Peter Jeffries (LD, Springbank) added: "The refugees are some of the most desperate people in the world and our country must do all it can to stop their suffering.
We in Cheltenham will move heaven and earth to help all those that we can."
