Welcome to Cheltenham Liberal Democrats
Thank you from Martin Horwood, MP for Cheltenham
"I am honoured to have been elected as your Member of Parliament. I know what a rare privilege it is to represent one's home town in the House of Commons and I will put my heart and soul into the job.
"If you voted for me, thank you. If you did not, I hope I may be able to win your support in the future. I will certainly do my best to represent all of the people of Cheltenham, however they voted.
"Don't hesitate to get in touch if you have a problem with which I may be able to help or if there is a local or national issue you would like to raise. I will also be holding regular advice surgeries, both at my constituency office in Hewlett Road and around the town."

Martin in IT first
Tue 24th Jun 2008
CHELTENHAM MP Martin Horwood today became the first MP to use a computer during parliamentary proceedings. The occasion was the first day of the committee stage deliberations on the Climate Change Bill and Martin took his place in Committee Room 9 of the House of Commons as Lib Dem shadow environment minister. He was able to log on because the Climate Change Bill has been selected to pilot the use of laptops in parliamentary committees. Martin was recognised by environment minister Phil Woolas as the first member to take up the opportunity although Conservative David Maclean later staked his claim too.

COUNCIL DEBATES PENSION OPTION
Tue 24th Jun 2008
The full meeting of the County Council tomorrow will debate the issue of making a pension scheme available for councillors. Local people who wish to become councillors risk losing pensions rights by committing to spending time in public service. The council needs better representation from working people, young women with families, people from ethnic minorities and those on modest incomes. Currently if a person takes unpaid time off work they may suffer loss of pension rights and national insurance contributions.
