Lib Dems slam health budget cuts

The Conservative Government is planning a £1.5m a year cut to Gloucestershire County Council’s public health budget.

The budget pays for work which saves the NHS money in the long run, such as campaigns to protect sexual health; to combat drink, drugs and smoking; and to prepare defences against deadly outbreaks of flu or meningitis.

Liberal Democrat councillor Iain Dobie, who has spoken out at County Council against these cuts, says “Cutting the public health budget is penny wise and pound foolish. It puts people’s lives at risk in the short term and will also be costly in the long term.”
