MARTIN RESELECTED AS LIB DEM CANDIDATE FOR CHELTENHAM1.06.38pm GMT Tue 13th Feb 2007 At a packed meeting at Cheltenham Town Football Club last night, Martin Horwood was reselected by local Liberal Democrats as their candidate for the next general election. Martin, who has been Cheltenham's MP since 2005, pledged to continue campaigning on local issues such as cuts and closures in our local NHS, the fight to prevent unwanted development on our precious green spaces, and the threat to train services from Cheltenham from the proposed Gloucester Parkway station. Speaking in support of Martin were Steve Williams, MP for Bristol West, and Mark Gettleston, chair of the Liberal Democrats youth and students. Steve Williams said: "In a very short time Martin has established a reputation both in Cheltenham and in Westminster as an outstanding campaigner on both local and national issues. "His exceptional work on the Charities Bill won respect from all sides of the House, and as one of the party's shadow environment ministers, he has a growing reputation on the issue of global climate change."
