Tackling climate change and protecting our environment

Our goals for the future

Climate change is having a major impact on our planet. That is why the Liberal Democrats on Cheltenham Borough Council has led the way locally by declaring a 'Climate Emergency' and set the ambitious goal of becoming a net zero carbon council and borough by 2030.

To help reach this target, we have:

✓ Put £425k into new climate fund to promote a low-carbon way of life.

✓ Developed the ‘Connecting Cheltenham’ plan to improve transport in Cheltenham and encourage more walking, cycling and public transport.

✓ Planted 1200 trees in the past year.

✓ Committed the Borough Council to being as far as possible single-use plastic free.

✓ Installed new recycling bins in public areas.

✓ Introduced new kerbside recycling including cardboard and plastics.

✓ Retained and improved the Swindon Road Recycling Centre.

✓ Continued the roll-out of electric vehicle charging points in CBC car parks.
