Housing money came despite lack of support from Tory MP

Reacting to the news that Cheltenham Borough Council has secured £3million to bring forward a development of much-needed homes in Portland Street, Cllr Andrew McKinlay, cabinet member for development and safety, said: “This is great news for Cheltenham.

"It's another example of the borough council securing important funds to invest in our town.

Local Tories, including our MP, have tried to claim credit for this, but nobody should be under any illusions: this happened despite our MP - not because of him.

“We asked Alex Chalk to support our bid with a letter from the council, but he declined.

We will work with anyone for the good of our town, but when people refuse to work with us then try to take credit for their own ends we think local people should know the truth.”
