At a packed meeting of local members, Martin Horwood (MP from 2005-2015) was re-selected as the Liberal Democrat candidate for Cheltenham.
The Liberal Democrats are now ready to fight a general election, having selected candidates in several key seats such as Cheltenham.
This follows reports that the new Prime Minister might go to the country early, before the economy goes into a possible recession and to take advantage of Labour in-fighting.
Martin has a strong record of representing local people, having previously campaigned on issues including; protecting local NHS services, campaigning for stronger flood defences, improving rail services and defending our green environment.
Commenting after his selection Martin said “In areas like this that voted clearly to Remain in the EU “The Liberal Democrats will go into the election as the only party committed to protecting Britain’s role at the heart of Europe.
“We are well placed to fight a general election whenever it is held and I am raring to go. Since the referendum we have signed up 16,000 new members, including more than 70 here in Cheltenham.”
