Building a more prosperous town

Our goals for the future

As we come out of the pandemic, we want to ensure that Cheltenham thrives, continuing to create jobs and helping businesses to prosper and grow. To achieve this:

✓ We have created an Cheltenham Economic Recovery Taskforce to spearhead Cheltenham’s response to the pandemic, bringing together senior leaders from across the public and private sector to help drive forward the town’s economic recovery. We have backed this with an extra £75,000 of funding to resource economic development projects.

✓ We have invested £37.5 million in West Cheltenham, which will help to generate up to 7,000 new jobs at ‘Cyber Central’ along with new homes and a return on investment for all Cheltenham residents.

✓ We have encouraged investment in the Regent Arcade, the Quadrangle and 111-117 High Street (next to John Lewis).

✓ We have set up a joint venture with a local company to create Minster Innovation Exchange, a £5.2 million flagship scheme in the heart of town centre. This will provide a base for the Cheltenham Growth Hub business advice service and deliver 20,000 sq. ft of purpose-built commercial space including flexible workspaces, a 300-person capacity performance arena, cafe, community and education space. It will also upgrade the historic link from Cheltenham Minster to the High Street.

✓ We set up virtual business advice service as part of the Growth Hub network.

✓ We have developed a Social Value policy to ensure all benefits beyond financial are taken into account when the council makes its decisions.
