In spite of continuing representations by your Lib Dem Borough Councillors, the A435 at Charlton Hill continues to slowly slip into the valley and part of the carriageway has been coned off for over two years now. Further subsidence is affecting other sections of the hill.
Planning permission has recently been granted for the Lilleybrook Golf Club to construct a new 9-hole course by importing 100,000 cubic metres of material. This means 12,000 heavily laden lorries using the A435 over a 3-year period (15 deliveries per day).
Urgent repairs are essential before this additional load is placed on an already fragile carriageway.
We will be making representations to Gloucestershire Highways to ensure this work is undertaken before the construction traffic commences and further damages the carriageway.
We have started a petition. You can sign it at: www.cheltlibdems.org.uk/a435_petition
Copies of the petition will also be available at local shops.
The A435 is not the only area of concern with this application. Flooding has previously been caused by water run off affecting properties further down the hill.
The proposed scheme does include flood alleviation measures, but it is important that the flood mitigation works are completed before all this extra material is brought on site.
We will keep you updated on progress with the A435.
