The Golden Valley Development is about a carving out a better future for Cheltenham and the surrounding area. It’s about innovation, enterprise and leveraging the global recognition our town has established as a centre for excellence in cyber technologies.
All these are central to the Golden Valley vision. But the Development’s overarching significance is as a world-class regeneration initiative that has the potential to touch and improve the lives of present and future generations of residents.
Recent work has been about ensuring the selection of the right partner that shares our vision and has the skills and passion to transform that vision into a living, breathing entity here in Cheltenham. At the end of July we were delighted to announce that HBD X Factory, a joint venture between UK property developer HBD and the international innovation campus developer Factory, has been selected as the preferred development partner.
The Council is now in listening mode. We’re actively reaching out to local people, businesses and community groups to better understand what the Development means to them – their ambitions, concerns and expectations. I have been encouraged by the high levels of engagement and passion and see this as the next stage in an ongoing dialogue with local communities that will help shape the Development.
I feel privileged to be part of the Golden Valley Development which I believe to be a prime example of how Cheltenham Borough Council continues to demonstrate its bold vision and the kind of strong local leadership that will help to drive economic recovery post Covid-19.
Our investment has been the catalyst for this Development, which is recognised as one of the most exciting and innovative projects anywhere in the country.
